Kumbh Mela Worlds Biggest Religious Festival

India is a country where culture and festivals are celebrated with great enthusiasm and love.  This year the worlds biggest festival, Kumbh Mela is happening, which is held in every three years. It is Hindu’s greatest religious festival, a belief for pilgrims to wash their past sins during this time. The Kumbh Mela switches between four different locations – Haridwar (river Ganga), Prayag (Triveni sangam of Yamuna, Ganga and Saraswati), Ujjain (river Kshipra),  and Nasik (river Godavari). The mela is returned to each location after 12 years. The hindus believe that all those who bathe in the sacred river during the kumbh mela, their sins are washed off and they are one step closer to salvation. You will be surprised to find the infinite holy men ranging from sadhus, who remain naked during the rituals, to hermits who leave their isolation only for these pilgrimages and various other disciples from different religions, who come in together to perform their sacred rituals. This must be hard to believe, but the festival is around 2000 years old. This year the Kumbh Mela is taking place from January 15th, 2019, at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh and will continue till March 4th. Well! You would not want to miss out on this grand festival.

There are different kinds of Kumbh Mela:

1.Maha Kumbh Mela: Which is considered to be once in a lifetime Mela and only happens in Prayag. It comes in every 144 years.

2. Purna Kumbh Mela: Which occurs once in 12 years. Where millions of pilgrims take a dip in the holy river.

3.Ardh Kumbh Mela: Which is celebrated after every 6 years. The Ardh Kumbh Mela is only organized in Allahabad and Haridwar.

4.Kumbh Mela: Which is held once in every three years, at four different place – Ujjain, Haridwar, Allahabad and Nasik.

5.Magh Mela: Which is conducted every year on the banks of Triveni Sangam, in Allahabad.

The ritual is followed by first the Saints, who dip in the holy river, once the Saints have taken the dip, it’s only then the commoners can go in the river. The crowd here is almost close to millions, every devotee waits for this occasion with the only belief to enrich their soul. People from all over the world also attend the Kumbh Mela. You must visit this incredible festival, which is the biggest of all the festivals in India.
