India is a country where culture and festivals are celebrated with great enthusiasm and love. This year the worlds biggest festival, Kumbh Mela is happening, which is held in every three years. It is Hindu’s greatest religious festival, a belief for pilgrims to wash their past sins during this time. The Kumbh Mela switches between four different locations – Haridwar (river Ganga), Prayag (Triveni sangam of Yamuna, Ganga and Saraswati), Ujjain (river Kshipra), and Nasik (river Godavari). The mela is returned to each location after 12 years. The hindus believe that all those who bathe in the sacred river during the kumbh mela, their sins are washed off and they are one step closer to salvation. You will be surprised to find the infinite holy men ranging from sadhus, who remain naked during the rituals, to hermits who leave their isolation only for these pilgrimages and various other disciples from different religions, who come in together to perform their sacred rituals. This must be hard to believe, but the festival is around 2000 years old. This year the Kumbh Mela is taking place from January 15th, 2019, at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh and will continue till March 4th. Well! You would not want to miss out on this grand festival.
